Knights of Columbus Council #14421

Our council has been awarded the Star Council which was given to us by our Worthy District Deputy. It is a great honor to get this award in our first full year. This is just another mark to illustrate all the hard work the Knights have done to help the church, cummunity, council, youth and families.

On September 20, 2009 K of C Council #14421 held our 2nd Annual Golf Tournament at Chippewa Creek Golf course. The event, once again, was a success with great weather, a terrific meal and a total of 92 players!

The winners of the event with a score of -11 were Mike Mielko, Steve Mielko, Keven Mielko and Dan Romano.

The closest to the pin on the Big Brothers/ Big sisters hole was won by Father Ed. We also had a prize for the more honest golfers and the winners were John Connors, Collleen Lonson and Joe Kubilis.

Many thanks go out to all that helped make this years event a great success, especially brother John Ivezic and brother Achille Maggi who came all the way from Bolton to help us!

I would also like to thank all who donated prizes and or sponsered a hole.

Thanks again to everyone and hope to see you all again at the 3rd annual tournament in 2010.

Our welcome back BBQ was held on Sunday, September 13, 2009 at the house of Rick and Kelly Lezon.

Activities included: swimming, Horseshoes, and bocci.

Grand Knight John Larmond used the occasion to present the 2008  family of the year award to the van Troost family.

Our thanks to Rick and Kelly and their family for their hospitality.

The Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish Picnic was held at Dofasco Park on August 2, 2009. The weather was beautiful and the participants enjoyed picnic foods and many activities. The park’s facilities included sports fields, a playground, mini-putt, driving range and pavilion.

A dinner and dance celebrating the 2^nd Anniversary of our Council will be held on October 17, 2009. Members of the council and their families are especially encouraged to attend this event, which is the premier event of the year for our council. The Anniversary Dance will be held in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church Hall and is open to all parishioners and friends.

Tickets will be available soon along with more information on what will prove to be a memorable occasion.

Ken is our council’ Chancellor and recently orginized our mother’s day flower which were given to the mother’s at our parish after the masses.

Our next general meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 5th, 2009. We will be holding the meeting in our church hall.

All general Meetings will be held on the first Tuesday of each month excluding July and August.

On August the 2nd the Knights of  Columbus Church Picnic will be held at Dofasco Park. We will have games and prizes for the kids, a karate demonstration by Joe van Troost, face painting, mini putt, and more! You can bring your own food and drinks (no alcoholic beverages) OR we will have hot dogs, burgers, and drinks available at a small cost.

On Tuesday the 23rd of June at Immauculate Heart Of Mary school for the grade 8 graduation; Lucas Beraldo won the Knights of Columbus award. The award was a plaque and a monetary amount from the Knights. John Larmond handed the award to Lucas.

The newly elected executive of our council were installed on June 22, 2009 in a ceremony at St. Francis Xavier Church in Stoney Creek.
